INAUGURAL CHINA MATTERS IN PARLIAMENT

The inaugural China Matters in Parliament forum was held on 19 June 2017. It was hosted by David Coleman MP, Chair and Julian Hill MP, Vice Chair, Australia – China Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The 3 x 40-minute sessions focused on the complex choices Australia’s decision-makers grapple with when dealing with China, particularly the controversies around Chinese investment in Australia and President Xi Jinping’s signature Belt and Road Initiative.

At each session, three guest speakers from China Matters provided opening comments. This was followed by Q and A.

The three guest speakers were:

  • Ms Linda Jakobson, Founding Director and CEO of China Matters
  • Mr Andrew Parker, Deals Partner and Asia Practice Leader at PwC; Board Director, China Matters
  • Professor Michael Wesley, Dean of the Collage of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University; Chair of China Matters Advisory Council
